Spirit Week

Every year around the third week of September we have Spirit Week.  We pick four themes and have the students and teachers dress up.  On Friday we play volleyball and football games and we play teachers/alumni against students and we end the week off with some hotdogs and chips.  It is a great week and we always have great participation!  This year we had Super Hero Day, Duct Tape day, Famous Person Day and we always have Army Day on Friday.

How's your classroom coming?

Write the Room

Now that my classroom is bigger (TWO TIMES BIGGER!!) I am excited to try out more learning centers.
Last year my room was so cramped, that there wasn't a lot of room to move around. But, this year, my classroom is a great size for 19 students! One of the learning centers that I am the most excited about adding is WRITE THE ROOM. I bought cute little clipboards at Walmart the other day that will hang just right on my hooks. I will have the students use the clipboards and worksheets (that you can download for FREE by clicking on the picture) to walk around the room and write down words that are interesting to them. I have on display all of their classmates names, a word wall, and some environmental print posters that will work great for this activity.
Have you ever tried this learning center before? Let me know how it has worked for you!

Apple Tree Dice Roll Game

So, I found these cute erasers last summer and I've wanted to make a game to use them in ever since.

So, here is the game that I came up with:
It's a roll the dice and cover the correct number game.  It will be perfect for the beginning of school.  For my kindergarten students, the apples only go up to 6 so they can practice dot patterns and number recognition.  For my first grade students, I made trees that have apples that go up to 12, so that they can use 2 dice to practice addition skills along with dot patterns and number recognition.
I can't wait to see it in action!
You can download 12 apple tree cards at my TPT shop here for just $1.
